Meet Emily of Seaside Creative!
A few months ago, we got an email from a super talented web designer who was looking for marketing sets to match her beautiful ProPhoto Blogs & Showit websites. I checked out her work and loved everything I saw. I'd already stopped taking on custom work to focus on creating photography templates, but I knew I wanted to find a way to work with this creative gal. After a few emails back and forth, a design collaboration was formed between Bittersweet + Emily Henning of Seaside Creative!
If you haven't already seen her work, take a minute out of your busy day to browse through Emily's work. As a designer by day and a mom by day, night, and all the in-between moments, Emily somehow finds the time to knock out gorgeous websites for professional photographers.
Here's a little bit more about Emily and her business:
When did you start Seaside Creative? Have you always dreamed of being an entrepreneur? I started Seaside Creative out of our tiny little apartment on the beach in 2009. I was working full time at a restaurant company as Creative Director and finishing up my design degree from San Diego State University. I always knew I wanted to stay home with my babies and be a Mommy and also contribute to the family and have my own business. I took on tons of random design projects and found my passion was working with other creative women and photographers. Since partnering with ProPhoto as a designer for their store in 2010, I've helped thousands of women have a beautiful and professional website and brand.
What do you love most about your job?
The creative freedom to design what I love and work the hours I want to. I love being able to take a step away and go to the park with my daughter and come back refreshed and ready to go! Plus, knowing that I'm a teeny tiny part of someone's business success is a big honor.
How do you balance running a business with being a mom? That has to be tough!
It is. I feel that some days I dominate being a wife and Mom and others I am able to focus on work - and rarely do they collide. I think it's all about balance and I'm lucky that I can choose my schedule. Now that she's almost 3 I can set her up with quiet projects while I do a little work here and there. I don't want to look back on this quick time of my daughter being young and feel like I missed it. I have a ton of respect for Moms with little ones who can work from home - it's not easy.
