Well, for starters, these individuals are the creative forces behind some of my very favorite blogs and publications. Secondly, these are just a handful of the talented peeps that happen to be judges for the site Minted, an online retail site that seeks out the best stationery designers around the globe. Every month, Minted holds a contest in which a handful of designs are chosen to become a part of their online retail collection.
While most professionals look at design contests as a huge waste of time due to the slim chances that their work will be selected as a winning entry (I could chat about this for hours), I am using this as a great opportunity to have my work viewed and critiqued by some of the "best of the best". Sure, there are over 1,100 other submissions and I've never entered a design contest in my life, but just knowing that many of the people I look up to (see names above) are chatting about my work is enough satisfaction for me. Whether they love my designs or hate them, the important thing is that they'll be LOOKING at them. A girl's gotta dream, right?
Along with these judges' selection of favorites, the winning designs are chosen by the community--which means YOU! I'm not usually one to ask for favors, but something as simple as voting for my designs would mean the world to me. It really just takes a minute to search for my name and click on the number you deem appropriate for my work (5 is a really good number to start with, *wink *wink).
As I become more and more selective about which custom projects I take on, I am slowly but surely making the transition into the retail world. Creating my own line of stationery is something that's been in the works for...well...pretty much my entire life, but now, I finally have the chance to make it official. There are a few other companies that have been generous enough to provide me with some great opportunities, so more to come on that later!
Please please please VOTE and tell all of your friends to vote if you get the chance. My chances of winning are around 1 - 2%, so YES, I'm very hopeful ; ). Even if none of my selections are chosen, I can honestly say that I loved every minute creating these designs. Besides, people have been known to do crazier things when in love. There, I said it. I'M IN LOVE.
Alright, that's my weak attempt at being a used car salesman. Here are the designs I entered (the holiday cards are for a later challenge, but feel free to leave your comments on those as well).
Thank you times a million.
