Nicole Chatham Photography: Branded!
Nicole and I met at a local bridal show last year, as I commented on her logo that hung on a banner several feet above her. She had a booth set up across from the photographer's booth that I was helping out with, and she was so warm and outgoing from the minute I met her. Whenever there was a dull moment that day, Nicole was always the first person to spark up a conversation, which made the time go by so much faster! I'll be the first to admit that I'm not crazy about trade shows (oops, I shouldn't say that on here), but it definitely helped to have someone to talk to when the crowds died down. After the show, I got a phone call from Nicole, and she told me about her previous branding experience. Although she liked the logo she had at the time, she felt as though it didn't really represent her work and style as a photographer. She wanted something professional and elegant, but she wanted to stay away from creating something that was too frilly or "girly".
My best advice to photographers looking for a new logo is to think about how your business identity can work with your work and not against it, as you don't want your branding to overpower the beautiful images that you create. This is a difficult concept to put into words, but remember that more often than not, LESS IS MORE! The simplicity of good typography has a perfection in itself that cannot be replicated with large flourishes and illustrations.
