Minted for West Elm Collaboration

Last year around this time, I made a specific goal to one day have a piece in my favorite home decor store - West Elm. I've been working on a set of seamless pattern designs for the textile industry, and this brand has been on the top of my list of dream companies to work with.

This year, almost exactly 365 days after this goal was released into the world, I was in Palo Alto celebrating an art print collaboration with West Elm and Minted, a site that brings designers from around the globe together in an online marketplace for beautiful paper goods. Recently, Minted paired up with West Elm to host a design challenge for unique art prints. Out of over 1,400 submissions, it seemed too good to be true that my home furnishing idol had chosen not one, but two of my art prints to be featured in their stores!

When I arrived at Minted's office in downtown San Francisco, I was greeted by a sweet trio that had previously only been familiar via email exchanges - Hope, Jen, and Katy. They gave me a tour of the sunlit space and introduced me to the hard working individuals that make this independent design community the premier stationery marketplace that it is today. In walks Mariam Naficy, Minted's CEO and founder. To say that it was a little intimidating would be quite an understatement. I was halfway across the country, all by my lonesome, meeting face-to-face with one of the world's most powerful female entrepreneurs. Mariam's warmth & humble nature is mind-blowing -- not only is she a badass, but she goes to work every day and sits at a (normal) desk in the middle of all of her employees at Minted. You can tell immediately that she has a true passion for her work and for the artists who contribute to Minted.

The sweet gals (and guys) at Minted were nice enough to let me tag along with them to Palo Alto for the evening's launch party at a local West Elm, where I got to meet two really talented designers who were also part of the collaboration - Annie Clark and Joe Manibusan. The three of us may or may not have climbed on top of the counter behind the registers for a photo op with our prints...

I am extremely thankful for Minted, West Elm, and this very unique opportunity.

If your dreams don't scare you, they aren't big enough!
